Sreya-ism...again a spin off from a conversation with a friend...(over good coffee and lots of dessert!)
"So Sreya...here I was on a business meeting with a client and I later come to know I was being judged( by him and his other friends who were on SMS) on the watch I wore. They decided on the business they would do with me on that!!!
Some years later I met a common friend for golf (one who was on that SMS thread)...and he asked me..." So how have you been? Hows work been? "
I answered " Well I have done well for myself, there has been great investment without wearing a Rolex"!
This friend of mine, is very senior in his line of business but still travels by MRT and bus among many other things. Again no judgement calls. Its his choice.
Impressions we form on outer show and brands that adorn. Of the materials we have without , with no care of how we have garbed our senses and conscience. Interesting!
I smiled at him as many memories flooded of similar judgement calls today and through the years. 7 years back when I moved from an expat, very high flying , "all that your aspire for you have" lifestyle to a single room in the middle of nowhere with near zero bank balance. I chose to give it all up. It was a choice I made and responsibly so.
Some people who knew me then and still do now ( you know how some 'friends' move according to your 'level" of living') have been there for who I am and not what I have materially.
I feel blessed and grateful for those souls.
I also feel blessed for those who have known me only in these 7 years without a clue about my past. They dont need to know. I am happy with the woman they know who struggles with hurdles , lives her dreams and stubbornly so! I have NO regrets. There is a thrill in it all !!!
I am happy with all who know me just for who I am now and value me no matter what. I have aspirations of course. But none materialistic anymore. Its more about living my dreams for the sake of it. But that's just me. Like a friend says..."Maybe you had all that one wants...so there is no aspiration there anymore...its a different path Sreya"
Bottomline...I feel deeply blessed
I am happy I chose the life I lead. No regrets. Lots of learning then, now and always
Choose who you want to be. What makes you...YOU!
And never ever stop learning.

Sreya-ism : on constructive criticism
Do what your inner voice tells you not the outer or alter ego...learn to take the ' e' and let it go...but the most important word is 'learn': from within and without...
We progress and evolve when we are open to learning and are grateful that life gives us opportunities that are so chosen for us. Yet there is also one crucial component of learning and that is being open to criticism. Even if it is sometimes very "in the face". Accept them with open arms. If someone is taking the time and making an effort to give feedback, be very thankful. In a world where most don't have time for another isn't that a wonderful gift? We get a different view of our selves so that we can evaluate and revisit the self. There again comes in the positive self talk and a relook within to be better than you were yesterday. Compete with yourself. Excel as a person each day. Evolving constantly. Learning something new everyday be it about people , situations or your own actions or even inactions. And while at it being open to opinions and accepting your mistakes too. Responsible for them and learning to accept them as your own.
Don't escape feedback. That's the worst you can do and it's almost self destructive.
A stagnation of sorts.
Be the best you can be and watch how life celebrates YOU! EVERYDAY!

Sreya-ism : Our generation and not?
A spin off from a conversation with a friend who knows me from campus days)
I /we: ( friends and others in my age 'bracket') belong to a generation that does not age. It's a strange space we are in though. We know when we need to pull up our socks and take the decisions we need to. Responsible too for the mistakes we make and not immature to put the blame on another. That's where we 'act ' our age to the T.
Yet we also know when and how to let our hair down. We know how to have fun and we feel in our late teens and perhaps early 20's still We dont believe in silly ego hassles and the world for us ,is still one big college campus where we continue to sing the ballads so close. We even know how to laugh at our follies and not be ashamed to rectify them. We don't believe in pretense and don't believe in mincing our words, yet appreciating decorum, ethics and sometimes a pedantic when it comes to etiquette
Why? Why are we a generation such?
Among many reasons the one that stands out is the time we have passed through. We came and saw through a time and age that moved from almost no internet, to some internet to a world controlled by technology and the would wide web. That makes a difference. A BIG difference where we knew what it meant to wait for the book requisitioned in the reference section to an age of click search and google. We have seen both sides. We know patience and the need to wait. Yet we realise the 'click, use and throw' trends of today too.
We appreciate gratitude , loyalty and ethics yet don't get surprised with a lack of it. We realise that trends of technology are getting replicated in human behaviour. As if we are just human apps sometimes.
We see both sides : teenage days and closing in on 40. We know how to adjust and we thus are happy to view and adapt to a world which we saw rapidly changing from our 20's. We like being there and yet have no hang ups to pace ourselves to the demands of the new age
