I saw the film and was meaning to write for a while now. With so much said and done about it..from too many issues, to too much complication, incorrect depiction and disaapointing and annoying...but funnily I felt nothing of the sort. I infact liked the film, and I do say this with pride that I am someone who views films critically and has seen one of the best films that have been made around the world.
With My Name Is Khan starts a whole stream of questions of not only the demons without but the demons that kill us from within...and in turn we just kill the humanity around us.
The very use of words "My Name is Khan and am not a terrorist" is fabulous. Its a harsh reality that the world doesnt want to know whether you are a rizhwan khan or a salil khan or a khurshid khan. The fact that you are a "khan" is enough for them to start thinking and reading five fathoms deep. Its sad that this line is being used to mock the film now...yest its DEF real. This brings back another film and some of the opening lines...in "Aamir" where the protagonist is harassed to no end at Mumbai airport just because he is Aamir and not and Amar! Here the name again comes in...yes in the name it is in a name...(Sorry Mr. S!)
The other very touching and real point in the film is when Khans mother teaches him about two kinds of people...which is so close to the basic principles on which counselling is based...the man and his environment and not what he is named or called...what someone becomes is what someone goes through. And the education a child receives and how it just get marked within his soul.
MNIK : The simplicity of a man determined to accomplish his goal and make his voice heard. The difficulties of his own being and the belief he has that only good will come no matter what. How many of us in todays world even thinks of that...do we need to be a little challenged to feel that good still is there? Has our otheriwse normalcy made us always despise distrust and disgrace?
The film supposedly dealt with too many issues in one mans life...but then when did we ever deal with just one issue in our lives? For my own sake I have faced more than I can count on fingers. I have gone through a fair share of experiences in 6 year itself including facing a disaster and meeting heads of state. I have been through traumatic relationships and lost close family and I have travelled lengths and breadths of countries to reach some of my goals. I have offered a helping hand to people I didnt know and in disaster and am going back yet again to do so...
So I do not think there are too many issues lumped in...yes there are some logical steps missed...but thats ok in the bigger scheme of things. But whats also remarkable is that the film spans over many years...real years and not a quick fix dream like DIY road!
Its indeed encouraging that illnesses such as those shown in recent bollywood efforts are being brought to the forefront. Its mass appeal and the masses need not just see skimpy women and fully clad men dancing around trees in dark halls shut from real time and space!
With so much change in the world today and at such pace its ok if the merchants of dreams are shattering into the real space reel after reel and its ok if some issues are thrown in the face for people to sit up...sometimes subtleties dont work..lets face it!
Am beginning to question those who say they "hated" the film...maybe they really have had a fabulous life...they are lucky...most are not!
Good Job Karan Johar...someone has to do it...u did!
